Crafted with precision.
It all started with a friendly office challenge…
Ian Boyle wasn’t even a coffee drinker in 2010 when a co-worker challenged everyone in the office to find the best coffee in town. After weeks of searching, he still hadn’t found a coffee that could beat the office favorites.
Determined not to lose, Ian took matters into his own hands—he bought a coffee roaster, sourced highly acclaimed green coffee beans, and roasted his own blend. His coworkers loved it. That first batch of smooth, rich coffee became the unexpected start of something much bigger.
From those early days of experimentation to opening a coffee shop, launching a mobile coffee business, and supplying wholesale coffee to hospitality businesses, one thing has remained at the heart of Good Sense Coffee: Every roast is crafted with care, precision, and a deep respect for both the farmer and the coffee drinker.
The Good Sense Coffee Roasting Philosophy
A Balance of Art and Science
Roasting great coffee is about honoring the work of the farmer and bringing out the best in every bean. We take a scientific approach to roasting—fine-tuning times and temperatures based on each coffee’s unique origin, plant species, and processing method. But we also embrace the art of roasting—understanding the delicate balance of flavors that make a cup bold, smooth, and complex.
The result? A great-tasting coffee that stands on its own—whether you drink it black or with your favorite additions. It’s the kind of coffee that turns a one-time purchase into a daily ritual.
Small-Batch Roasting for Consistency
Many coffee roasters don’t adjust for each coffee’s unique characteristics, leading to over- or underdeveloped flavors. We roast in small batches to maintain quality and consistency, ensuring that every cup tastes just as good as the last.
Blends That Elevate, Not Mask
Many roasters create blends to hide low-quality beans and maximize profit margins. We do the opposite. Our blends, like the signature Runner’s High, are made from high-end, single-origin beans that are good enough to stand alone. Each type of bean is roasted separately to preserve its best qualities, creating a layered, complex flavor profile that keeps every sip interesting.
Meet the Coffee:
Featuring our signature Runner’s High Blend
Some things in life should never be rushed. Runner’s High was no exception.
After watching his wife, Sarah, compete in the 2016 Olympic Trials, Ian wanted to create a coffee blend inspired by the endurance, precision, and thrill of the sport. But he wasn’t willing to cut corners.
“For years, I resisted the idea of blending because so many roasters use it as a way to stretch margins with lower-quality beans. That went against everything we stood for. If we were going to create a blend, it had to be exceptional.” —Ian Boyle
With the encouragement of fellow runners and friends, Ian spent months experimenting with the perfect combination of beans. The result? A meticulously crafted blend that balances bright, fruity notes with smooth, chocolatey richness.
Every sip keeps you guessing: Was that lemon? Blueberry? Almond? Dark chocolate? Maybe all four?
Just like the exhilarating rush of a runner’s high, this coffee keeps you coming back for more.
Sourcing with Purpose
Ethical, Sustainable, and Community-Focused
Great coffee starts long before it reaches the roaster.
We source our beans from small farmers who participate in co-ops, ensuring fair wages and sustainable farming practices. Whenever possible, we prioritize direct trade relationships to build strong connections with growers.
Because coffee is about more than just the final cup—it’s about respecting the process, the people, and the communities it touches.
